Flyer displaying Summer Library Hours
The Libraries of Stevens County have put together an exciting Summer Reading Program filled with reading challenges, activities, prizes, and opportunities to explore new books!

Many of our local library branches are also offering fun summer programs and events for children and families throughout the season. Whether your student is a reluctant reader or already has their nose in a book, there's something for everyone.

Summer reading helps students maintain the skills they've worked so hard to build during the school year and prepares them for a strong start in the fall. No back-sliding here!

Check out the attached information to learn more about programs available in our community.

Let's make reading a part of our summer adventure! 📖✨

The intermediate class took a final geology field trip last Friday to the Wild Turkey Mine near Waitts Lake. It was an amazing opportunity for our class! We had a fantastic day discovering and collecting rocks with Noble Serpentine in a wide range of colors. The owners, Jim and Jennifer Sahli opened the mine just for us, and visited with us while telling us the history of the mine, and even showing us where the elusive blue Serpentine was. They gave each student a bag to collect rocks in, and then GAVE the kids the rocks! This mine is only open 5 weekends during the year. There are 4 left; and if you like rocks, I highly encourage you to go!

The intermediate class learned how to create crystals with Borax and water as part of our Mother's Day gifts. As part of our geology unit we have learned about how crystals are formed in nature, but these were our first classroom creations.

The Borax solution was so saturated that our jars had extra crystals form on the bottoms. Many students decided to add extra bling to their cards.
Nice to see that they our wrapping allowed the gifts to make it home in one piece!

Every 3 years, to coincide with the intermediate geology unit, Onion Creek School's staff and students take a whole-school field trip to the Stonerose Interpretive Center & Eocene Fossil Site in Republic to learn about and search for fossils in sedimentary rock from an exposed Eocene lake bed. We had great weather, attitudes, and experiences on our Friday field trip!!

🌎 Students, staff and volunteers celebrated Earth Day 2026 by working on student-led projects including fitness trail maintenance, setting up the greenhouse and garden for the growing season, starting seeds, landscaping and orchard improvements. We cleaned miles of community roadside during our annual Onion Creek community pride project. ☀️The sun was shining, music was playing, and there was lots of laughter as we enjoyed a day well spent.
