The intermediate class took a final geology field trip last Friday to the Wild Turkey Mine near Waitts Lake. It was an amazing opportunity for our class! We had a fantastic day discovering and collecting rocks with Noble Serpentine in a wide range of colors. The owners, Jim and Jennifer Sahli opened the mine just for us, and visited with us while telling us the history of the mine, and even showing us where the elusive blue Serpentine was. They gave each student a bag to collect rocks in, and then GAVE the kids the rocks! This mine is only open 5 weekends during the year. There are 4 left; and if you like rocks, I highly encourage you to go!

🌎 Students, staff and volunteers celebrated Earth Day 2026 by working on student-led projects including fitness trail maintenance, setting up the greenhouse and garden for the growing season, starting seeds, landscaping and orchard improvements. We cleaned miles of community roadside during our annual Onion Creek community pride project. ☀️The sun was shining, music was playing, and there was lots of laughter as we enjoyed a day well spent.

Onion Creek Middle School students had a great time at the Colville High School Rotary Club Career Fair! Students grades 6th-8th were able to explore all sorts of career possibilities with a favorite being their introduction into the world of fabrication with OCS alum Ben Finnoe. A stop off at Douglas Falls for lunch, and it was a perfect day.

The intermediate class has a new routine that has quickly become an eagerly anticipated activity. During "Reading Practice", students may choose to read on their own, or with a partner. An hour goes swiftly as they take turns reading and discussing self-selected books.
